We love nothing more than seeing the rise of natural, clean & organic beauty products and witnessing more and more people making the switch. When you are still new to the BIG CHANGE, it can be a bit overwhelming keeping up with all the lingo – that’s why we have put together this guide to help you understand more about Vegan Make Up and Cruelty Free Make Up.

A make up product that is vegan does not contain any animal ingredients or animal-derived ingredients. For example, this includes honey, beeswax, lanolin, collagen, albumen, carmine, cholesterol, gelatin, and many others but is not necessarily limited to those items. Many people assume that “vegan make up” means that the product is also free from animal testing – this is unfortunately no true. As there is very little regulation around using this term, it is hard to draw the lines for its usage. Mostly though, it means that the product does not contain any animal-derived ingredients

Cruetly Free Beauty Products

Now to distinguish a beauty product that has not been tested on animals, the more correct term would be ‘cruelty-free’ – this means these is no form of animal testing at any point in the creation of a brands products.

However, a product can be cruelty-free and not be vegan. It can also be vegan and not be cruelty-free. It’s common for companies to not test the final product on animals, but to test it along the way or to use ingredients that have been tested on animals by a third-party.

If you want to be sure you are using makeup products that are both vegan and cruelty free, you need to make sure you look for both labels, as they both cover different things and having just one label – vegan or cruelty-free – doesn’t mean your product is both.

Vegan make up products range from complexion products just as primers, bronzers, powders and foundations to blushers and both eye and lip makeup. Vegan Eye make up products include eye shadows, eye pencils, brow & lash treatments, mascara and a lot more. Lip products include lip pencils, lipstick, lip gloss, lip balms and more.
